Bartholomew County, IN — A local man previously convicted of armed robbery has been arrested again for violating his probation, just months after receiving a suspended sentence.

Marc Mathis, 21, of 3510 W. County Road 300S, was taken into custody Saturday afternoon by Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies at the Community Corrections offices, where he was cited for a probation violation. According to officials, suspected fentanyl was discovered in a common area, prompting the arrest. The substance later tested positive.

Mathis denied being in the area where the narcotics were found, but investigators proceeded with the violation citation. He is currently held without bond, per jail records.

Back in July 2025, Mathis received a nine-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to a Level 3 felony armed robbery. The incident occurred on August 19, 2024, when Mathis entered a Circle K convenience store near his home, wearing a mask and wielding what appeared to be a black handgun.

Court records show he took $150, which he later admitted was intended to fuel a fentanyl addiction. He reportedly apologized to the clerk during the robbery, stating he was struggling with withdrawal and had used alcohol and meth before committing the crime.

As part of the plea agreement, Mathis was placed in jail with time served, and was to be transferred to a work release program and later a sober living facility. Additional conditions included a mental health and substance abuse evaluation, 200 hours of community service, a drug screening, and no contact with any Circle K locations.

With this latest arrest, Mathis may now face revocation of his suspended sentence, pending further legal proceedings.
