Ruby Whitehorn Arrested in Knox County for Burglary, Assault
Lady Vols guard charged after domestic dispute at residence
KNOX COUNTY, Tenn. – Ruby Whitehorn, a standout junior guard for the Tennessee Lady Vols, was arrested Friday following a domestic dispute at a residence in North Knox County. She faces charges of aggravated burglary and domestic abuse, according to court documents.
Whitehorn, 21, who started 28 games last season and averaged 11.6 points and 4.0 rebounds, was identified by deputies as the aggressor in a confrontation that escalated into property damage and physical altercation.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Whitehorn reportedly kicked in both the front door and a bathroom door, then chased the victim upstairs, broke a bedroom door and a mirror, and retrieved her phone before leaving the scene. The incident was captured on video, which was submitted as evidence.
The victim told deputies she saw Whitehorn outside after hearing glass break. During the altercation, the victim’s dog ran off but was later found near the back of the home. Neither party reported visible injuries.
Whitehorn told officers she was attempting to recover personal belongings, including her phone and passport, which she claimed the victim had taken.
She was released on bond Saturday and is scheduled to appear in court on August 12.
The University of Tennessee issued a brief statement, saying it is aware of the situation and is gathering more information.
Whitehorn transferred to Tennessee from Clemson and quickly became a key player for the Lady Vols.
