LIVE OAK, Fla. (WCJB) — A Suwannee County man was arrested Thursday evening after deputies, aided by K9 units, caught him fleeing from a worksite theft.

Deputies arrested Alton Mark Lane, who is a convicted felon, after responding to reports of theft at a local worksite that had previously suffered from repeated equipment damage and stolen property. When deputies arrived, Lane and another suspect attempted to flee the scene.

Using a K9 unit, deputies tracked Lane to a nearby home. Upon arrest, Lane was found in possession of methamphetamine, other illegal drugs, and a shotgun, which he is prohibited from possessing due to his felony status.

Lane now faces multiple charges including grand theft and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Authorities are continuing to investigate whether others were involved.
