Altaf Ganaie, Showkat Malik Held in Shopian Cow Theft

Livestock recovered within hours, police crack case fast

In a swift and efficient operation, Shopian Police solved a livestock theft case within hours and arrested two individuals involved in stealing a cow worth approximately Rs1 lakh.

According to a police spokesperson, Muhammad Sultan Teli, a resident of Batpora, Shopian, filed a written complaint stating that a cow had been stolen from the yard of his house during the night of June 30, 2025.

Following the complaint, FIR No. 146/2025 was registered at Police Station Shopian under relevant sections of the law. A special investigation team was quickly formed, and through effective coordination and timely action, police were able to recover the stolen livestock and identify those responsible.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

Altaf Mushtaq Ganaie alias Alsur, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Ganie, resident of Meemander

Showkat Ahmad Malik, son of Gh. Nabi Malik, resident of Arhama, Shopian

Further investigation is ongoing, and authorities expect more details to emerge.

Police reiterated their commitment to protecting the lives and property of the public and urged residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement.
