Two robbers from Haryana linked to the notorious Mewat gang were arrested early Saturday morning following a police encounter in Kalaburagi. The suspects, identified as Taslim (28) and Sharif (22), were shot in the legs by police while attempting to flee after robbing an SBI ATM of Rs 18 lakh using a gas cutter.
Kalaburagi Police Commissioner Sharanappa S D stated that police received a tip-off about a suspicious Delhi-registered vehicle on the city outskirts. Upon intercepting the vehicle, officers opened fire to halt the robbers. Taslim and Sharif sustained leg injuries during the encounter.
During the operation, PSI Basavaraj and constables Raju, Manjunath, and Firoz also suffered injuries and were admitted to Kalaburagi’s GIMS Hospital alongside the suspects.
So far, four individuals including the gang’s kingpin Taslim have been arrested in connection with the ATM heist that took place two weeks ago at the district headquarters.
