Sathya, a notorious marriage swindler from Erode district, was apprehended in Puducherry on Sunday after reportedly conning 50 men into fraudulent marriages.
Among her victims is 30-year-old Aravind from Dharapuram, Tiruppur district, who met Sathya on a dating app called Anbe. Believing he was in love, Aravind was persuaded to marry her secretly, with the involvement of a broker named Tamilselvi.
As suspicions grew and Aravind discovered Sathya’s history of multiple marriages, he took decisive action. He cleverly brought both Sathya and Tamilselvi to the Dharapuram police station, where he filed a formal complaint.
During the investigation, it was revealed that Sathya had deceived over 50 individuals, stealing money and jewelry along the way. Many victims felt too ashamed to come forward, but Aravind’s courage prompted a deeper inquiry.
Sensing the gravity of the situation, Sathya attempted to evade capture but was ultimately arrested in Puducherry on July 14. She was subsequently taken to the Dharapuram All Women Police Station. In a press statement, Sathya claimed she would prove her innocence and criticized the media for its portrayal of her.
Now, victims and their families await the court hearing to seek justice against this elaborate deception.
