Manipur Police have apprehended a woman, Shakina alias Apikcha (28), in connection with the theft of a gold ring from a jewellery store at Wahengbam Leikai Supermarket in Imphal.
Shakina, a resident of Paobitek Mayai Leikai under Wangoi Police Station in Imphal West district, was arrested at her home on July 16 by officers from Imphal Police Station.
The arrest followed a complaint by the shopkeeper, who reported that a gold ring valued at Rs 40,000 went missing after Shakina’s visit. A video showing the theft circulated on social media, aiding the investigation.
A joint search by Imphal and Wangoi police at Shakina’s residence led to the recovery of the stolen ring. During interrogation, she confessed to the crime.
Police revealed that Shakina is a habitual offender, previously arrested in 2022 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
She was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate on July 18 and remanded to judicial custody until July 31. Legal proceedings are ongoing.
