CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Brittany Allison Gardner, a 35-year-old employee at a Charlotte-area Harris Teeter, has been charged with felony larceny after allegedly stealing more than $11,000 from the store over several months.
Court documents obtained by WCNC Charlotte reveal that Gardner is accused of stealing $11,170 between February 9 and June 5. She was charged on Monday, July 14, and later released on a $35,000 bond.
Though investigators have not confirmed the exact store location, an incident report points to the Harris Teeter on Davis Lake Parkway in north Charlotte — the same location that was damaged by an alleged arson earlier this year.
According to an affidavit, the store’s asset protection manager reported that Gardner, a customer service manager, frequently counted money and placed it into the safe. However, Gardner allegedly removed money from the safe and kept it for herself on at least 10 occasions.
The most recent theft occurred on June 5, when Gardner was recorded taking $2,000 after depositing only $13,000 of a $15,000 cash count. Gardner later admitted to stealing between $10,000 and $11,000 but was unable to recall specific dates or amounts.
Gardner has been employed at Harris Teeter since 2009 and was working during the time the thefts occurred.
