In a major crackdown on a sophisticated loan fraud, Indore police apprehended two men from Uttar Pradesh for allegedly cheating banks out of nearly Rs 50 lakh using forged salary slips, fake documents, and stolen identities.
The accused—Ravi Kumar of Noida and Devendra Singh from Meerut—posed as salaried professionals, submitting falsified paperwork including salary slips, bank statements, Aadhaar cards, and PAN cards to secure personal and car loans from various banks.
The scam was uncovered when a private bank in Vijay Nagar grew suspicious during a routine verification of a loan application backed by seemingly perfect yet forged documents. Acting on a complaint, Vijay Nagar police swiftly arrested the two suspects from separate locations.
Further investigation revealed that Ravi and Devendra had created fake GST and Gumasta licenses under the name of Anil Chaudhary, an AC technician, and used these to open a bank account purportedly belonging to an AC company. They simulated salary deposits by regularly transferring cash between accounts, creating the illusion of legitimate income, and used fake salary slips to secure multiple loans.
Devendra Singh also operated under a false identity, “Dev Sharma,” complete with forged Aadhaar and PAN cards, enabling him to obtain a personal loan of Rs 11 lakh. Meanwhile, Ravi Kumar manipulated a local villager’s Aadhaar details to assume his identity, enabling him to open accounts and secure loans fraudulently.
Both accused have been remanded to police custody for seven days as investigations continue to uncover any accomplices and recover defrauded funds.
