The Juhu police on Tuesday arrested two robbers, Sunny Chand Pawar (25) and Rahul Mudane, for allegedly breaking into a Vile Parle residence and stealing jewellery worth Rs1.15 crore on June 28. Authorities have successfully recovered the stolen property from the accused.
The victim, a businessman, had been abroad in Africa with his family from June 23 to July 7. Upon returning, he discovered that the iron grill outside his windows had been broken. Two iron safes containing 2,469 grams of gold and diamond jewellery were missing from two wooden cupboards in his bedroom.
The police registered an FIR against unknown suspects. With the victim abroad during the incident, the exact date of the crime was unclear. After reviewing 12 days of CCTV footage from the victim’s absence, police determined the theft occurred on June 28.
Only one CCTV camera in the building was functional, but despite the unclear footage, police identified one accused and found he had fled to Punjab with his wife. Sunny Chand Pawar was arrested there and revealed the identity of his accomplice, Rahul Mudane, who was later caught in Navi Mumbai. Both accused have criminal histories and multiple cases registered against them across the city.
