QUINCY (WGEM) — A woman has been arrested in connection with a burglary at the Keosippi Center in Fort Madison, Iowa, after a set of stolen keys led police straight to the suspect—thanks to a phone left behind at the scene.

According to court documents, 38-year-old Laura C. Hazell was caught on surveillance footage around 11:30 a.m. Monday entering a secured office area that was off-limits to the public. The footage showed Hazell removing a set of keys from a desk drawer.

Police quickly identified Hazell after discovering that she had accidentally left her phone under the same desk where the keys were taken. She later returned to the scene looking for it.

Authorities say Hazell admitted to taking the keys and was subsequently arrested and charged with 3rd-degree burglary.

The Keosippi Center, where the incident occurred, is a well-known local community facility. The investigation remains ongoing.
