A couple involved in a series of thefts at major bus stands across the city over the past year has been arrested by the Nashik City Police. The accused, Mangesh Rakhpasare (24) and his wife Nisha Rakhpasare (25), both originally from Audutwadi in Panchavati, were living in Sansari, Deolali Camp.

The arrest came after a complaint was lodged at the Mumbai Naka police station about a stolen gold chain from the Mahamarg bus stand. Following repeated theft incidents at Mahamarg, Thakkar Bazaar, and Mela bus stands, Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik ordered a focused investigation by the crime branch.

During the probe, Crime Branch Unit 1 officers received a tip-off about the couple’s involvement. A trap was laid, and the suspects were detained. During interrogation, Mangesh and Nisha confessed to multiple thefts targeting passengers boarding buses at different locations.

Police recovered 80 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs6 lakh, which the couple had sold to a jeweller, and a car worth Rs3.4 lakh purchased using the stolen proceeds. The jeweller who bought the stolen gold has also been identified and the items seized.

With their arrest, police claim to have cracked five theft cases registered at the Mumbai Naka, Panchavati, and Sarkarwada police stations.
