The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested a key suspect linked to a recent surge in motorbike thefts across the region. Emmanuel Akanpatiba was detained following intelligence gathered by police operatives.
During his arrest, Akanpatiba was found in possession of a stolen motorbike and later admitted to the theft during interrogation. He also named an accomplice, Israel Fredrick Lomotey, who remains at large.
The arrest stems from a report on June 24, 2025, when a Madina resident reported that his red Royal motorbike (registration M-25-CW 367) was stolen from his home while he was asleep.
Further investigations revealed that Akanpatiba, alongside accomplices Nurudeen Ali and Inusah—both based at Agbogbloshie Onion Market—were involved in at least twelve motorbike thefts over the past month. The accomplices are suspected receivers of the stolen bikes.
Police disclosed that Akanpatiba typically breaks steering locks before transporting stolen motorbikes to Agbogbloshie, where they are sold for between GHS 2,000 and GHS 3,000, depending on the bike’s age.
Authorities are continuing efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover additional stolen motorcycles.
The police urge the public to properly secure their motorbikes and valuables, report suspicious activities promptly, and provide any relevant information by calling 18555 or 192.
