Men linked to Ballplay home theft via footage, witness tips

by Amelia Crawford

ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. — Two men have been arrested in connection with a June 8 burglary in the Ballplay community, according to the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office.

Steven Kennedy, 42, and John Wesley Hunter, 38, face charges of third-degree burglary and second-degree theft of property after a homeowner reported multiple stolen items.

With the help of eyewitness accounts and surveillance footage from nearby businesses, investigators identified the suspects and conducted a follow-up interview at their residence. A search warrant was executed, leading to the recovery of stolen property, which was returned to the victim.

Kennedy and Hunter were arrested on July 8 and are being held at the Etowah County Jail, each on a $20,000 bond.

“This is another great example of how community cooperation, technology, and solid police work come together to hold criminals accountable,” said Sheriff Horton.
