In a swift operation, Jharkhand Police recovered stolen gold jewellery worth Rs1.5 crore within 18 hours of a daring robbery in East Singhbhum’s Chakulia area. Two of the three accused have been arrested, while the third remains at large.
The incident occurred on Monday evening (July 6, 2025) when jeweller Arun Nandi, also known as Khokan Nandi, was returning home to Mistripada after closing his shop, Prapti Jewellers, located near Birsa Chowk in Chakulia Nagar Panchayat.
As part of his routine, Nandi was carrying a bag containing approximately 1.5 kg of gold jewellery and ₹50,000 in cash. At around 8:15 p.m., just as he reached his doorstep, three bike-borne assailants confronted him. One held a knife to his neck, while another threatened him with a pistol before snatching the bag and fleeing. Though Nandi shouted for help, the robbers managed to escape, warning bystanders against chasing them.
Chakulia Police, led by Station In-Charge Santosh Kumar, sprang into action. Suspecting the accused might flee to West Bengal, they coordinated with Jambani Police Station across the state border.
Within hours, two suspects were arrested — Mohammad Rafiq of Rafiganj (Aurangabad, Bihar) and Niranjan Gaur of Bagbeda (Jamshedpur). The entire stolen jewellery haul was recovered from them.
Both are now in custody in Chakulia and being interrogated. Raids are ongoing to apprehend the third accomplice involved in the armed robbery.
