The Chabal police on Saturday arrested Daljit Singh, a resident of Thatha village, for stealing cash offerings from Gurdwara Baba Inder Das in Thathgarh during the early hours of Friday night.

The theft came to light on Saturday morning when a granthi arrived to perform the daily religious service (‘nitnem’) and noticed the donation box (golak) had been tampered with. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, the gurdwara management confirmed the crime.

According to Baba Nirmal Singh, organiser of the gurdwara management, Daljit Singh was seen on surveillance footage entering the complex around 1:05 AM. Using an iron rod from a microphone, he broke open the golak and stole approximately Rs10,000 in offerings before fleeing.

ASI Jatinder Singh of the Chabal police confirmed the arrest. Daljit Singh has been booked under Sections 331(4) and 305(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deal with offences involving theft from places of worship.

The police are further investigating whether the accused is involved in similar incidents in the region.
