PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Cynthia Mackin, 62, was arrested on DUI charges after her husband, Daniel Mackin, 59, died following a fall from a moving golf cart in Port St. Lucie, police reported.

Officers responded to the incident on Saturday after receiving a call about a man who had fallen from a golf cart and suffered a fatal head injury. According to police, Cynthia was driving the golf cart along a sidewalk when Daniel, who was standing on the rear of the cart, lost his grip and fell to the ground, striking his head.

Daniel Mackin was rushed to HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

A DUI check conducted by officers revealed Cynthia Mackin’s blood alcohol content was 0.09, exceeding Florida’s legal limit of 0.08. She was arrested and later released on a $500 bond.

Traffic homicide investigators are consulting with the State Attorney’s Office to determine whether additional charges will be filed in connection with the fatal accident.
