Jabalpur police cracked down on a major fake currency racket, arresting six individuals, including a BBA student, for allegedly printing and distributing counterfeit notes. The authorities seized fake currency worth Rs18 lakh, though the total counterfeit notes produced are estimated to be worth crores.
The investigation started on June 16 after a tip-off about a youth named Ravi Dahiya, who was caught near Mandi Madar Tekri cemetery carrying counterfeit notes valued at Rs2.94 lakh. During interrogation, Dahiya revealed the existence of a larger counterfeit currency operation in the area.
Based on his information, police raided a rented house in Yashwant Nagar, Adhartal, on June 17, where the alleged kingpin of the racket, 36-year-old Rituraj Vishwakarma from Kamti Imliya Gotegaon Narsinghpur, was arrested. Officers seized a color printer, laptops, paper, printing colors, and cutters used for manufacturing fake notes.
Rituraj confessed to printing counterfeit currency for 8 to 9 months, exchanging fake notes for genuine currency at a 1:3 ratio. Others arrested include 20-year-old BBA student Dhiraj Manwani from Dwarka Nagar, Gaurav Tiwari (44) from Brijmohan Nagar, Santosh Srivastava (55), and Ajay Naveria (44) from Binjhiya Tiraha. Police recovered fake currency worth Rs9 lakh from Ajay Naveria and Rs3 lakh from Satyam Patel.
