UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Three individuals — including a juvenile — were arrested after allegedly assaulting a man and attempting to rob him near Lansing and Nichols Streets on June 25, according to the Utica Police Department.
Officers responded to a robbery call and spoke with the victim, who reported that he had met with an acquaintance and several of the acquaintance’s friends. While walking together, the victim was suddenly pushed to the ground and attacked by the group, who punched and kicked him repeatedly.
During the assault, the suspects allegedly removed the victim’s backpack and attempted to steal his cellphone. When the victim refused to let go of the phone, the group continued the assault.
The victim eventually escaped and contacted authorities.
Based on witness descriptions, officers located and detained three suspects nearby. They were identified as:
John Wesby, 18, of Utica
Osman Borrow, 20, of Utica
A 14-year-old juvenile (name withheld due to age)
All three were transported to the Utica Police Department for processing. Charges are pending based on the ongoing investigation.
