NORTH ELBA, N.Y. — A Philadelphia man is facing multiple charges, including two felonies, after crashing a stolen vehicle in North Elba on June 24.

State Police responded to a report of property damage on Old Military Road, where they discovered a white 2018 Jeep off the roadway. Investigators determined that the driver, 46-year-old John F. Kimberly, had failed to stay in his lane, crossed into oncoming traffic, and veered off the road before stopping. Kimberly declined medical treatment at the scene from Lake Placid EMS.

During the investigation, Troopers discovered that the Jeep had been reported stolen in Saranac Lake. A conversation with the Saranac Lake Police Department confirmed the vehicle’s status.

Kimberly was transported to SP Ray Brook for questioning, where he complained of a leg injury related to the crash. He was evaluated at Adirondack Medical Center, then returned to police custody.

Kimberly was subsequently charged with:

Third-degree criminal possession of stolen property (felony)

Fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property (felony)

Four counts of criminal possession of stolen property (credit cards)

Criminal mischief

He was arraigned in North Elba Town Court and remanded to Essex County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or a $10,000 partially secured bond.
