Umesh Tabrez Zabi Khan Held in Van Theft Gang

Bengaluru Police Recover Rs12L Worth of Stolen Vans

by Ananya Mehta

The Vidyaranyapura police have arrested a three-member gang involved in a series of van thefts across Bengaluru. The gang was busted after a van stolen in May was caught on CCTV, helping the police trace the suspects.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Umesh, Tabrez, and Zabi Khan—residents of Bengaluru and all in their 30s. Acting on leads from the CCTV footage, police managed to apprehend the trio and recover six stolen vans, with a total estimated value of Rs12 lakh.

Authorities confirmed that the gang targeted small vans parked in residential areas, often during the night, and used tools to bypass security systems. The vehicles were likely being resold or repurposed illegally.

Investigations are ongoing to determine if the gang was linked to similar thefts in other parts of the city. Police have urged vehicle owners to install anti-theft devices and park in well-lit, secure areas.
