The Crime Branch of Indore Police on Saturday arrested three members of a drug supply network and seized an enormous quantity of illicit pharmaceuticals. Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya revealed that police confiscated 9.30 lakh Alprazolam tablets and 5,240 bottles of codeine syrup, with a black market value exceeding Rs one crore.
The primary accused, Akash Jain, an MBA graduate and wholesale medical trader from Bhopal, was identified as the mastermind orchestrating the illegal distribution of controlled substances across several cities through his associates. The probe uncovered that the illegal drug operations had intensified post-COVID, as the accused sought rapid financial gains.
Amaar Singh, a BSc graduate and resident of Satna, was the key supplier responsible for distributing codeine syrup and Alprazolam tablets at inflated prices. He procured the drugs from his associate Aman Rawat of Bhopal.
Aman Rawat, with nine years of experience in pharmaceutical marketing, admitted to sourcing these restricted drugs from Akash Jain and funneling them through Amaar Singh.
Akash Jain operated a wholesale medical drug business under the name Swastik Enterprises. He confessed to smuggling restricted drugs post-pandemic to capitalize on quick profits, using Aman and Amaar as distributors.
The arrested trio were connected to prior drug busts in which two accused, Moinuddin alias Mona and Shavez, were caught with 360 bottles of codeine syrup, and another suspect, Jitendra alias Jeetu Yadav, was found with 1,950 Alprazolam tablets.
