Suspects accused of stealing from guest while he slept

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Oklahoma City police arrested two men last week, accused of stealing money and a personal item from a guest at the Remington Inn, where they both worked.

The incident occurred on July 17 when a guest checked into the motel and fell asleep in his room. According to court documents, while the victim was asleep, the two employees used a master key to gain access and steal from him.

The suspects have been identified as Robert Kirk and Maurice Redd. When the victim awoke, he discovered that $300 in cash and his cell phone were missing. He informed police that no one else had permission to enter his room.

Police corroborated the victim’s account by reviewing surveillance footage. Unfortunately, the responding officer was unable to retrieve the stolen items from the arrested suspects.

Oklahoma City police shared tips on how to protect valuables while traveling. “Make sure your personal property is secured,” advised Dillon Quirk with the Oklahoma City Police Department. He recommended using small travel safes or lock boxes for valuables.

Quirk noted that the victim was fortunate to have escaped the incident unharmed. “Any time you’re dealing with a crime where someone enters an occupied space, it could escalate into a more volatile situation. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case this time.”

News 4 reached out to motel management for clarification on whether the suspects still have their jobs, but a spokesperson declined to comment, stating they were advised not to by their attorney.
