The Mumbai Police’s Kurar unit has arrested four members of a robbery gang, officials confirmed on Tuesday. The gang, which included a woman, consists of known criminals with previous records.
One of the accused, Abdul Ansari, also known as Appu Khota, from Goregaon East, has over 47 robbery cases registered against him. The other arrested members are Deepali Bhul alias Deepali Sharma, Suraj Jadhav, and Akash Pawar.
Suraj Jadhav, an auto-rickshaw driver from Malad, reportedly informed the gang about vacant houses. The gang then targeted these homes for robbery, with Appu Khota acting as the mastermind.
Ansari has several cases filed against him across Aarey, Dindoshi, and Kurar police stations. Despite previous convictions, he continued his criminal activities.
In the case registered at Kurar police station, the gang stole gold ornaments and Rs 4.72 lakh cash from a Malad East resident, Najeer Khan, while he and his family were away between May 30 and June 6. The thieves broke the lock and stole 100 grams of gold, 240 grams of silver, and cash.
After returning home to find the burglary, Khan filed a complaint that led to the police investigation. Following the arrests on June 8, all the stolen valuables were recovered.
The accused are currently in police custody until June 10, as per court orders.
