MONTVILLE, NJ – Nasir Moses, 20, of Jersey City, has been sentenced to five years in New Jersey State Prison for his role in a high-speed pursuit involving a stolen vehicle in Montville in 2023, authorities announced.

Moses pleaded guilty on March 17, 2025, to second-degree Eluding and third-degree Receiving Stolen Property. On April 25, 2025, Judge Robert Hanna handed down concurrent sentences of five years and three years for the respective charges, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Montville Police Chief Andrew Caggiano.

The incident occurred on July 9, 2023, when a Lincoln Park Police officer attempted to stop a suspected stolen BMW on Route 202. The vehicle, later confirmed to be stolen from New York, sped off at over 90 miles per hour, initiating a high-speed pursuit that ended when the car spun out on Route 287 North. All five occupants fled on foot, running across highway lanes and into the woods.

Four of the individuals were apprehended at the scene, while Moses, identified as the driver, initially evaded capture. He was later arrested on an unrelated charge in Bergen County in September 2024 and transferred to the Morris County Correctional Facility.

Two passengers, Diyana Graham, 21, and Nashawn Holmes, 18, both of Newark, were also charged. Graham received 60 days of jail credit, 18 months of probation, and 50 hours of community service after pleading guilty to Resisting Arrest. Holmes pled guilty to Receiving Stolen Property and was sentenced to 10 days of jail credit, 18 months of probation, and 50 hours of community service.

Two additional occupants were juveniles and have not been publicly identified. They were charged with Unlawful Taking of a Means of Conveyance, Resisting Arrest by Flight, and Conspiracy to Receive Stolen Property.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Matthew W. Kelly of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. Officials praised the collaborative work of the Montville and Lincoln Park Police Departments, the MCPO Special Operations Division, and former Detective Joseph Ellis in bringing the case to resolution.
