In a major update on the Tangra family triple murder case, 44-year-old Pranay Dey was arrested by Kolkata Police from NRS Hospital on Saturday. The elder of the two Dey brothers, Pranay had been receiving long-term medical treatment following a car crash on EM Bypass that occurred just hours after the killings.
According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Rupesh Kumar, medical authorities cleared Pranay for arrest, leading to his formal custody and court appearance. Investigators allege that Pranay and his younger brother, Prasun Dey (43), murdered Pranay’s wife, sister-in-law, and niece at their home on Atul Sur Road in Tangra on February 19.
Shortly after the murders, both brothers allegedly attempted suicide by crashing their vehicle into a metro pillar on EM Bypass while Pranay’s minor son was also in the car. The 14-year-old, who survived the incident, is now preparing to return to school after the traumatic events.
Prasun was arrested earlier on March 3 and charged under sections 103(1) and 109(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following Pranay’s arrest, police conducted a search and seizure operation at his residence, guided by his statements.
The investigation is ongoing as more evidence continues to emerge in one of Kolkata’s most shocking family homicide cases.
