GALLIA COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) — A Thurman man, 25-year-old Austin McQuaid, has been arrested in connection with multiple business thefts in Springfield Township, Gallia County.
According to the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office, the thefts occurred on Saturday, May 17, targeting Foster Trucking and the University of Rio Grande’s baseball facility.
Jakob Gilbert, head mechanic at Foster Trucking, described the scene Saturday morning:
“Our watch crew noticed someone had broken into the truck trailer and taken everything. We reviewed the cameras and confirmed the theft.”
Among the stolen items were:
Tools and gas cans
Power washer equipment
Scrap metal
Several aluminum wheels
Lawn equipment from the University of Rio Grande
Deputies acted swiftly, executing a search warrant that led to the recovery of the stolen items. The recovered property has since been returned to the victims.
McQuaid was arrested without incident and taken to the Gallia County Jail, where he has been charged with theft. Authorities said that additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.
Gilbert emphasized how this has impacted business owners:
“You have to keep your eyes on everything anymore… You don’t know what’s gonna happen, you can’t trust nobody, unfortunately.”
