In a significant operation on Tuesday, two members of a notorious Mewati gang were arrested by Delhi police in connection with a series of ATM thefts and cow smuggling activities. The two suspects, identified as Sabir, 29, from Nuh in Haryana, and Munfed, 25, from Rajasthan, were detained near Bamnauli village on the Bijwasan-Najafgarh road in southwest Delhi.
The police had received a tip-off about their whereabouts and intercepted their Mahindra Bolero car. Upon searching the vehicle, officers found both men in possession of loaded pistols.
Sabir, a known habitual criminal, has been linked to several prior offenses, including ATM thefts and violations under the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausanvardhan Act. In 2021, he was involved in the uprooting of an ATM in Chirawa, from which Rs12.6 lakh was stolen. He was also part of a failed ATM theft attempt in the same region the following day.
Moreover, Sabir had previously participated in a cow smuggling operation in Dharuhera, during which four cattle were rescued by authorities. He had managed to evade arrest during the raid at that time.
Munfed, who joined the gang due to financial struggles, had two criminal cases registered against him in Rajasthan before linking up with Sabir’s group.
Both individuals have been remanded in police custody, and further investigations are underway.
