A 40-year-old man, Carlos Modesto, was arrested in San Elizario after being accused of stealing 500 gallons of diesel fuel from the El Paso County Water Improvement District (EPCWID).
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office reported that Modesto was identified after being seen driving a red pickup truck, which was linked to a fuel theft on April 21. A concerned caller alerted authorities about a tampered well, stating that 500 gallons of fuel had been stolen by a man in a red pickup truck.
On April 23, while investigating a separate case, deputies spotted a red truck matching the description. Following this, a search warrant was obtained, leading to the seizure of the truck and tools believed to have been used in the theft.
Modesto wasn’t arrested until Sunday, when deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle near 12370 Socorro Rd. Modesto was driving a 2005 red Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and allegedly gave deputies a false name and resisted arrest.
He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on charges of property theft, failure to identify a fugitive, and resisting arrest. Modesto was released the same day after posting a $17,500 bond.
