In a significant anti-narcotics operation, city police arrested Vijay Rahangdale, a history-sheeter with a record of 15 criminal cases, including murder and robbery. The arrest was made early Tuesday near Shastri Nagar NIT Ground, Wathoda T-Point, leading to the recovery of 20 grams of MD Mephedrone and items valued at over Rs2.03 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off, the NDPS squad, supervised by DCP Rahul Maknikar, launched a raid that led to Rahangdale’s capture. During the search, conducted in the presence of official witnesses, police seized a mobile phone, a moped, cash, a digital scale, and ziplock pouches, along with the drugs.
Investigations revealed that Rahangdale sourced the narcotics from Shahid Sheikh of Yashodhara Nagar and intended to deliver them to Prema Gaur, a woman with prior drug peddling charges. Rahangdale was apprehended near Gaur’s residence.
Following his interrogation, police raided Shahid Sheikh’s home, recovering another Rs2 lakh worth of MD Mephedrone, phones, and drug paraphernalia. Sheikh was arrested, and efforts are now underway to trace and arrest Prema Gaur, who remains at large.
Both Rahangdale and Sheikh are being held under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is ongoing.
