Struck pedestrian at car meet, causing serious injuries

Taylor Stacey, 20, from Wilnecote, Tamworth, has been handed a 22-month prison sentence—suspended for two years—after he seriously injured a pedestrian during a car meet in Avonmouth.

Appearing at Bristol Crown Court on Thursday, Stacey admitted to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He has also been banned from driving for three years.

The incident occurred on 18 November 2023, when Stacey lost control of a white BMW while attempting a dangerous drifting manoeuvre on a roundabout on Poplar Way. His car clipped a kerb, spun 180 degrees, mounted the central reservation, and struck a 20-year-old woman.

She suffered multiple fractures, including a skull fracture, along with internal injuries, and is still recovering.

Footage of the crash, recorded on mobile phones, was widely shared on social media and showed the moment the car veered off course at a car meet involving about 40 vehicles.

PC Edward Walsh of Avon and Somerset Police said Stacey showed a “flagrant disregard for public safety.”
“To carry out the drifting manoeuvre, he deliberately placed the car into Sports Plus mode, which reduced traction control,” he said.

“This case is a powerful reminder that while car meets can be a celebration for enthusiasts, public safety must never be compromised,” he added.

The police extended their best wishes to the victim, whose life has been dramatically affected by the reckless actions.
