A day after the decomposed body of a woman was found in a box bed at a flat in Delhi’s Shahdara, police have solved the case with the arrest of the house’s owner and one of his accomplices.
On Friday, authorities received a call reporting a foul smell emanating from a flat in Satyam Enclave, Vivek Vihar. Upon arriving at the scene, the police found the house locked with blood marks near the back door. After breaking in, they discovered the decomposed body of a 35-year-old woman, identified as Anju aka Anjali, inside a storage area in the bed.
A special team was formed to investigate the murder, and they began searching for the flat’s owner, 65-year-old Vivekanand Mishra. Mishra was soon arrested near Surajmal Park, Anand Vihar.
Mishra confessed to the murder, revealing that Anjali, who was from Ludhiana, had been killed by him. He also named his two accomplices, Abhay Kumar Jha alias Sonu and Ashish Kumar.
After Mishra’s arrest, Sonu, who had come to Delhi to help dispose of the body and was staying in a Paharganj hotel, attempted to flee to Bihar. However, the police tracked him down aboard the Magadh Express and arrested him at Aligarh station with the help of the Government Railway Police (GRP).
Further interrogation and call records revealed that Mishra and Sonu had planned the murder together. On March 21, they brought Anjali from Ludhiana to Delhi, where she was killed. Mishra had even searched online for ways to dispose of a body using chemicals and had looked for open manholes and drains in Delhi, indicating that the criminals had pre-planned how to destroy evidence.
The police are now actively searching for the third accomplice, Ashish, and are investigating the motive behind the murder.
