VSUPD Reports on Key Incidents from 3/28 to 3/30, Including Theft and Graffiti

A 19-year-old arrested for theft, social media trespassing, and vandalism under investigation

The weekend of March 28-30 saw several incidents on the VSU campus, including a theft arrest, a curious student trespassing into a vacant building, and the discovery of graffiti that has sparked an ongoing investigation.

Student Union Theft Incident
On Sunday, March 30, a 19-year-old man was arrested at the Student Union for theft. Officers responded to a confrontation between a student and a non-student in the game room. The student reported unauthorized charges on her credit card, totaling $23.82. Upon investigation, the suspect, identified as James Henry, provided conflicting information about his identity. It was revealed that Henry had been previously trespassed from the campus and had active warrants for obstruction of an officer and criminal trespass. He was arrested and taken to Lowndes County Jail, facing charges of computer theft and criminal trespass.

Langdale Hall Trespassing Incident
On Saturday, March 29, a student was found exiting Langdale Hall at midnight through one of the main doors. When questioned, she admitted to crawling through a first-floor window to enter the building, citing curiosity. Further investigation revealed social media discussions about entering the abandoned dorm building. The Housing Department and Student Affairs have been notified to address the issue of trespassing in vacant buildings. No legal action was taken against the student, and the investigation is ongoing.

Graffiti Found on Campus
On Friday, March 28, two instances of graffiti were discovered on campus. One piece was found on the outside of a vacant house owned by the VSU Foundation, while the second was found on the Monster Bridge by the Oak Street Parking Deck. Both featured a sickle-and-hammer symbol, typically associated with the Communist Party, with the words “Power to the People” accompanying the graffiti on the house. The suspect remains unidentified, and the VSU Police Department has urged anyone with information to contact Sgt. Tobias Edwards in the Investigations Division.

These incidents are part of the routine weekend reports, which also included five other incidents, two traffic stops, and 155 building and property checks.
