In a recent development, the Chandannagar police have arrested a woman, Rutuja Rajesh Surushe, for stealing gold jewelry and cash while working as a domestic helper. Surushe, a resident of Vadgaon Sheri near Assembly Church, was found to be involved in two separate theft incidents.
The case came to light when a 52-year-old woman from Vadgaon Sheri filed a complaint with the police. The complainant had gone to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for work on February 17 and returned on February 25 to find that 27 grams of gold jewelry and a sum of cash were missing from her cupboard.
During their investigation, police uncovered that Surushe, who worked as a domestic help at the complainant’s house, was responsible for the theft. Upon her arrest, police recovered 77 grams of stolen gold jewelry and Rs5,500 in cash from her residence.
Further interrogation revealed that Surushe had also stolen 60 grams of gold and cash from another woman’s home on Old Mundhwa Road.
Police have seized the stolen gold jewelry, cash, and a two-wheeler from the accused’s possession. The investigation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Himmat Jadhav and Assistant Commissioner of Police Pranjali Sonawane. Senior Inspector Seema Dhakane, Assistant Inspector Prashant Mane, and several other officers played crucial roles in the case.
