NORTH NAPLES, Fla. — A 33-year-old Naples man, Wilson Belizaire, has been arrested and charged with grand theft after allegedly stealing a woman’s purse from a shopping cart at a Costco in North Naples on January 25.
Deputies say Belizaire waited in his Jeep while a shopper loaded her groceries. Once the woman drove away, Belizaire reportedly pulled into her parking spot, grabbed her purse from the abandoned cart, and fled the scene.
Inside the purse was a significant amount of cash, credit cards, a smartphone, a Social Security card, and other personal documents. Investigators quickly used traffic cameras and other tools to identify Belizaire. He was arrested after agreeing to meet with authorities.
Collier County Sheriff Kevin Rambosk issued a reminder for shoppers to always secure their belongings. “Never leave your purse unattended, even for a moment,” he warned.
