LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Scottsbluff man is in custody after leading police on a high-speed chase through multiple counties in the Nebraska Panhandle on Wednesday.
The Nebraska State Patrol received reports of a stolen Chevrolet Impala traveling east on Highway 92, just outside Gering, at approximately 11 a.m. A trooper located the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the driver, later identified as 32-year-old Jeremie Steen, refused to pull over and sped away, reaching speeds over 110 mph.
The chase continued for approximately 20 minutes, with Steen driving recklessly, including entering the wrong lane multiple times. As the vehicle neared Bridgeport, it slowed down, allowing another trooper to deploy stop sticks to further reduce its speed.
As Steen made his way through Bridgeport, he struck a parked car and several mailboxes before finally stopping at Fifth and P Streets. Steen was apprehended without incident.
He faces charges including theft over $5,000, flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, and numerous drug and traffic violations. Steen is currently being held in the Scotts Bluff County Jail.
