DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – An 18-year-old Moline woman, Hannah McCaulla, was arrested Thursday night after leading authorities on a high-speed chase reaching speeds of up to 130 m.p.h.
McCaulla faces several charges, including eluding at a speed more than 25 m.p.h. over the limit, a Class D Felony. According to the arrest affidavit, an Iowa state trooper joined the pursuit shortly before 11:30 p.m., as McCaulla was being chased by Davenport Police.
During the chase, the trooper hit speeds of around 125 m.p.h. as the pursuit transitioned onto Interstate 74 from eastbound Interstate 80. The chase escalated to 130 m.p.h., but the trooper was unable to catch up to McCaulla. As the chase approached the Middle Road exit on I-74, McCaulla slowed down but was still speeding at 127 m.p.h. in a 65 m.p.h. zone.
She eventually pulled over on the shoulder near the Middle Road exit, and officers took her into custody without incident.
McCaulla told the trooper that she fled because she was afraid of losing her license due to accumulating speeding tickets. During the search of her vehicle, officers discovered a small bottle of Fireball Whisky in the cup holder and a glass pipe containing marijuana residue in plain view.
McCaulla was booked into Scott County Jail Thursday night and later released on bond. In addition to the eluding charge, she faces charges for possession of drug paraphernalia, underage possession of alcohol, and speeding at 127 m.p.h. in a 65 m.p.h. zone.
She appeared in court on Friday, but as of Saturday morning, no further details have been provided.
