by Sophia Bennett

BEDFORD COUNTY, PA – Dan Quac Tran, 47, from Lancaster, was arrested early Thursday morning after allegedly breaking into a restaurant in Bedford County. Tran, suspected of committing multiple burglaries across Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware, was charged with a series of felonies, including criminal mischief, theft, burglary, and criminal trespass.

Tran was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Wendy R. Mellott on six felony counts of criminal mischief, four felony counts of theft, and a single felony count each of burglary and criminal trespass. He was denied bail and remanded to the Bedford County Correctional Facility.

The arrest took place around 1:44 a.m. on Thursday, when state police in Bedford were informed by officers from Lancaster that Tran was the prime suspect in a series of burglaries across the three states. The Baltimore County Police Department had been tracking Tran and his vehicle, which was spotted near Mandy Jo’s Country Corral, a restaurant in West Providence Township, Bedford County.

At approximately 3:09 a.m., Baltimore detectives saw Tran leave the restaurant with a duffle bag, get into his vehicle, and drive towards Breezewood. Detectives followed Tran into Fulton County, where state police stopped his vehicle in McConnellsburg and took him into custody.

Upon investigating the restaurant, officers found evidence of forced entry through the front door, the use of a cutting device to open an ATM, and multiple PA Skills gaming machines being broken into. The cash register was also found empty, with coins scattered on the floor.

A search of Tran’s vehicle yielded about $12,747 in cash, blank checks from the restaurant, various tools including a Stanley tool set, hand saw, pry bar, and a DeWalt grinder, among other items.

The restaurant’s owner reported about $300 missing from the business, as well as three blank checks, the hard drive from the video recorder, and damage to the doors. A representative of DeLeo Games also confirmed significant losses from the gaming machines and ATM.

Tran is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on January 29, 2025, at Bedford County Central Court.
