City police have arrested Rishabh Ajmera, a 40-year-old man from Gurgaon, for impersonating an official of Rajasthan’s Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and defrauding a buyer by selling a rental car with fake documents. Ajmera, originally from Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, and residing in Bindayaka, Jaipur, was arrested after a complaint from a resident of Ramganj who had been scammed into purchasing a KIA car for Rs 7.4 lakh.

According to the victim, he met Ajmera about four to five months ago while playing cricket, where Ajmera introduced himself as an ATS officer. Later, Ajmera contacted the victim via WhatsApp, claiming he was stationed in Gurgaon and needed to sell a car. Ajmera shared photos of the car and its documents, leading the victim to agree to a price of Rs 7.4 lakh.

Ajmera, citing his busy schedule, asked the victim to come to Gurgaon to view the car. After inspecting the car and its documents, the victim found them to be satisfactory and paid Rs 1.5 lakh via phone and Rs 5.9 lakh in cash. However, when attempting to transfer the car’s ownership at the RTO office in Jaipur, the victim discovered that the documents were fake.

During interrogation, Ajmera confessed to using fake documents to sell rental cars and admitted he had plans to defraud other buyers. He also revealed that he had successfully sold another car using similar tactics.

Ajmera’s arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into fraudulent car sales, and the police are working to identify any additional victims of his scams.
