WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) – A day after her brother, a popular Juno Beach restaurant owner, was arrested for not paying sales tax, Nadia Baldasaro, 45, was also taken into custody. She faces similar allegations, this time involving Eatalia, an Italian restaurant located on Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach.
According to the Florida Department of Revenue, Baldasaro failed to pay more than $100,000 in sales taxes over a four-year period, beginning in June 2020 during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The department claims that during this time, Eatalia collected nearly $250,000 in sales tax but passed less than $119,000 of it to the state.
In an interview with investigators, Baldasaro reportedly admitted that the tax payments were overdue. She claimed to have been in communication with the state agency to resolve the issue, but no agreement was finalized.
The amount Baldasaro allegedly owes, $127,870.44, is strikingly similar to the $122,999.10 her brother, Massimo Giovannangelo, allegedly underpaid for his restaurant, County Line Italian Ristorante and Pizzeria. Baldasaro was also questioned about her brother’s case, and she told investigators that she was unaware if he had sent the collected taxes to the state.
Baldasaro was booked into Palm Beach County Jail on a felony charge of theft of state funds.
