The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Olamide Adeniyi, a notorious armed robbery suspect and cult leader, in the Igando area of Lagos. Adeniyi, who is popularly known by his alias “Morak,” has been terrorizing various neighborhoods, including Lanre, Oko Filling, and Egan in the Igando axis of Alimosho Local Government Area for several years.
Adeniyi, reputed for his violent crimes, is said to have killed and maimed innocent citizens and even disarmed police officers on multiple occasions, making off with their firearms. Despite being arrested multiple times in the past, he was reportedly released due to lack of evidence. However, his luck ran out on August 15, 2024, when he was apprehended while in operation with some of his associates on Celestial Road in Igando in broad daylight.
The arrest has brought a sense of relief to residents, who have long expressed concerns about the suspect’s activities in the area. They have called on the authorities to ensure that Adeniyi does not return to terrorize the community. Many have also expressed their gratitude to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Kabir Suleiman, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Igando, and his team for their efforts in bringing Adeniyi to justice.
Lagos State Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, clarified the situation regarding Adeniyi’s previous arrests. Speaking with The Guardian, Hundeyin stated, “I cannot confirm that he has been arrested several times. Even if he had been arrested and released, it means there was no evidence found.” He continued, “If we arrest a person on suspicion of armed robbery and we search their house but find no gun or other incriminating evidence, the person will be released.”
However, Hundeyin confirmed that this time, there was credible evidence linking Adeniyi to the armed robbery and cultism activities, ensuring that there would be no chance of his release without consequences. The suspect has since been transferred to police headquarters, where the case is being processed.
Lagos police continue to leverage inter-agency collaboration to enhance security measures and ensure that laws are clear, enforceable, and capable of supporting the efforts to maintain law and order in the state.
