Gujarat SGST Inspector Vipul Patel Arrested for Fraudulent Raid

Inspector Suspended for Posing as Income-Tax Officer in Dahod

by Ananya Mehta

Vipul Patel, an SGST inspector from Gujarat, was arrested on January 11 for impersonating an Income-Tax officer during a fraudulent tax raid in Dahod. As a result, the Gujarat State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) department has suspended Patel and initiated a vigilance inquiry into his actions.

Patel, posted as a tax inspector in Division-5 of the Vadodara Zone, was accused of organizing the fake raid. The incident came to light after an FIR was filed by Alpesh Prajapati, a tailor and money lender from Dahod, whose shop was targeted in the raid.

According to Prajapati’s complaint, he received a call on January 10 around 2:30 pm, informing him that Income-Tax officials had arrived at his shop. Upon returning, Prajapati found four individuals claiming to be officers from Gandhinagar. One of them presented an English document and demanded Prajapati’s signature, alleging there was a case against his father.
