A man from Traverse City, Michigan, was arrested in Great Bend after allegedly scamming a woman out of $50,000 by posing as an employee of Microsoft and her local bank. Nathan W. Greenwood, 42, is accused of convincing the victim that her bank accounts had been compromised and pressuring her to provide money to resolve the issue.
According to Great Bend Police Chief Steven Haulmark, the suspect convinced the woman to withdraw $50,000 and hand it over to a delivery driver. The scam continued the following day, with Greenwood contacting the victim again to demand more funds.
The Great Bend Police Department launched an investigation, working with local financial institutions and intercepting phone calls related to the case. Detectives staged a location where Greenwood was set to collect the victim’s package. When he arrived to pick it up, officers arrested him.
Greenwood was charged with theft by deception and mistreatment of an elder person by false pretense. He was booked into the Barton County Detention Center and later released on a $50,000 bond.
