Two migrant workers from Bihar, Jeewali Kumar (30) and Kotilal Paswan (37), were arrested on Friday for defrauding a plastic merchant of Rs60,000 in Tondiarpet, Chennai. The crime occurred when Krishnan, a 53-year-old plastic merchant from Nethaji Nagar, sought help at an ATM kiosk in New Washermenpet.

The suspects helped Krishnan by inserting his ATM card and entering the PIN. They later claimed the machine malfunctioned and handed him back a fake card. However, they used the original card to withdraw ₹60,000 from his account after he left the kiosk.

Krishnan realized the fraud after receiving a notification of the withdrawal and promptly filed a complaint. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, the Tondiarpet police arrested the duo, who were found with more than 10 fake debit cards. The suspects were remanded to judicial custody after being presented in court.

These individuals primarily targeted elderly people or those unfamiliar with ATM operations.
