CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — Two Cape Girardeau residents have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on October 28.
Khamani Rutherford, 19, and Tristen Mackins, 20, were taken into custody in early December. According to the Cape Girardeau Police Department, the incident took place at around 7:45 p.m. on S. Spring Street when a victim reported being approached by two suspects who exited a dark-colored Chrysler 300. The suspects allegedly pointed guns at the victim and stole a backpack containing $200.
Rutherford was arrested on December 6, while Mackins was taken into custody on December 10. Both have been charged with first-degree robbery, a Class A felony, and felony armed criminal action. They are currently being held on $100,000 cash bond.
The investigation is ongoing, and police expect additional charges to be filed.
