Earl Thomas, former “Legion of Boom” Seahawks defensive back, hasn’t played in the NFL since 2019, but his personal life continues to make headlines. According to TMZ, Thomas was allegedly defrauded of nearly $3 million by his estranged wife, Nina Thomas.
Court documents obtained by TMZ reveal that Nina began transferring funds from Earl’s accounts into her own shortly after filing for divorce in 2020. The total amount taken was approximately $2.7 million. Some of the funds were reportedly spent on luxury items, including breast implants and a Hermes Birkin handbag.
Nina has since been arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, and aggravated identity theft. This incident marks another chapter in a tumultuous relationship between the couple.
In November 2020, Nina filed for divorce after a dramatic confrontation in which Earl was allegedly held at gunpoint for being found in bed with two women and his brother, Seth. Following this, a judge granted Nina a restraining order against Earl after a reported altercation in December 2021 when Earl allegedly attacked her while intoxicated.
The troubles didn’t stop there. In 2023, Nina’s new boyfriend, Kevin J. Thompson, was arrested for allegedly stealing Earl’s identity in a separate $1.9 million scam. Thompson is accused of cashing NFL checks, stealing from Earl’s bank account, and transferring ownership of several vehicles.
Thomas, who spent nine seasons with the Seahawks and one with the Ravens, had a celebrated career, earning three All-Pro honors and a spot on the Hall of Fame’s All-2010s Team. However, his career ended on a sour note when the Ravens terminated his contract in 2020 due to “personal conduct that adversely affected” the team. Over the course of his career, Thomas accumulated 30 interceptions and over 700 tackles.
