LEEDS, Ala. — A 28-year-old man, Dventa Marchis Smith, has been arrested and charged with the murder of his father, according to the Leeds Police Department. Smith allegedly shot and killed his father on Tuesday, December 10.
The Leeds Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Smith on December 11, and he was later transferred from the St. Clair County Jail to the Jefferson County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin expressed the heartbreak and disbelief over the incident. “This is a difficult time for the family and friends of Mr. Smith. Domestic violence has once again taken the life of someone when an alternative solution could have been taken,” Chief Irwin stated. “It is unbelievable the lack of remorse or heartbreak of someone who has just murdered their father.”
Irwin also praised the quick response of the Leeds Police Department, the JSU Center for Applied Forensics, and the ATF in the investigation.
