Rashid Malik, Shahrukh Malik, Ramzan, Junaid Arrested for Delhi Metro Theft

Four arrested for stealing signalling cables, disrupting Metro services.

In a significant breakthrough, Delhi Police arrested four individuals involved in the theft of 140 metres of signalling cable from Delhi Metro’s Blue Line, which resulted in a disruption of services for nearly six hours on November 5.

The arrested suspects include Rashid Malik (26), Shahrukh Malik (29), Ramzan (32), and Junaid (32). They were taken into custody between December 6 and December 10 under various charges, including theft, criminal trespass, and sabotage of Metro operations. Specifically, the charges include Section 303(2) (theft) and Section 329(3) (criminal trespass) of the BNS and Section 74 of the DMRC Act.

A senior police officer confirmed that the arrested men are part of a larger criminal gang, and a search operation is ongoing to apprehend other members of the group involved in the crime.

This incident had significant repercussions for Delhi Metro services, leading to a six-hour delay in operations on the crucial Blue Line, affecting thousands of commuters. Police investigations revealed that the stolen cables were essential for the functioning of the metro’s signalling system, making the theft a serious act of sabotage.

The police are continuing their efforts to identify and apprehend the other gang members who were involved in the theft and disruption of services.
