A Peterborough man was arrested on his birthday when police found thousands of pounds worth of drugs and cash during a routine disturbance call.
Daniel McCarroll, 26, had been drinking at a property on June 24 when police arrived at the scene after reports of a disturbance. As McCarroll tried to flee the house shortly before noon, officers found him intoxicated and behaving suspiciously.
Believing McCarroll was trying to communicate with someone nearby, officers searched the garden and discovered a duffel bag containing nearly £7,000 in cash and a tin holding drugs. The drugs, which included cocaine, ketamine, and MDMA, had an estimated street value of over £8,000.
McCarroll, who resides on Peake Close in Peterborough, was later charged and appeared at Cambridge Crown Court on October 1. He was sentenced to four years in prison, with 47 months for possession with intent to supply cocaine, nine months concurrently for ketamine possession, and an additional one month consecutively for breaching a previous suspended sentence.
McCarroll pleaded guilty to all charges.
Detective Constable Josh Crown commented, “The officer’s thorough approach to a disturbance call led to the discovery of both drugs and a large sum of cash. This sentence should send a clear message to others involved in the supply of illegal substances. The drugs were destroyed, and the cash forfeited.”
