FORT SMITH, Ark. — A 19-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred earlier this month at a local park, according to the Fort Smith Police Department.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire at Woodlawn Park on March 13, where they found a 21-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.
Investigators say the victim had arranged to meet someone at the park to sell a pair of shoes. However, the meeting allegedly turned into a robbery attempt when Mauricio Romani approached him with a firearm.
According to police, the victim attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle, but Romani allegedly fired multiple shots, striking him once in the shin.
Nearly two weeks later, on March 26, authorities located and arrested Romani following a traffic stop.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue to gather details surrounding the incident.
